About the Organization 

The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is an agency of the Government of Nunavut that serves the housing needs of one of the fastest-growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, coordinate, and administer housing programs in order to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030.

About the Opportunity

The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is looking for a full-time Director, Policy and Strategic Planning based in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

In this role, you will report to the VP Finance and Corporate Services and be accountable for guiding and assisting the development and review of NHC’s legislation, policies, briefings, and decision-making documents.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership in department-wide strategic planning
  • Collecting, recording, and analyzing information on housing
  • Coordinating information for the Minister, President, CEO, and Board of Directors
  • Supporting informed decision-making and alignment of plans and activities
  • Organizing and ensuring effective planning and policy structures
  • Overseeing corporation communications
  • Serving an integral function in the Corporation's crisis management structure
  • Managing NHC’s overall reputation

About You

To qualify, you will need an undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field.

A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the policy field, including policy development and analysis, strategic planning, communications, public relations, and crisis management, will also be essential. 

Additionally, you must have three (3) years of progressive managerial experience.

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages — Inuktut, English, and French — is highly desirable. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also valued assets for this position.
