About the Organization 

The Nunavut Housing Corporation is an agency of the Government of Nunavut that serves the housing needs of one of the fastest-growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, coordinate, and administer housing programs in order to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030.  

About the Opportunity

NHC is excited to offer a full-time District Comptroller role within our committed team based in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.

Reporting to the District Director, you will play a crucial financial and administrative leadership role. Your dual responsibilities include supporting the financial operations of the District Office and overseeing the financial affairs of the Local Housing Organizations (LHOs). By managing the District Office's finances and human resources, you contribute significantly to our strategic financial planning and operational efficiency, ensuring our assets are judiciously managed and our financial reporting meets the highest standards of efficacy and compliance.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Negotiating and formulating budgets to secure necessary financial resources for service provision
  • Collaborating with the executive management team to align expenditures with corporation policies and budgetary constraints
  • Ensuring adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and legislative requirements in all accounting processes
  • Supervising and mentoring the administrative and accounting teams, fostering an environment of growth and excellence

This role offers the unique chance to impact the financial stewardship and operational success of Nunavut's housing strategies, all while experiencing the rich cultural and natural landscapes of Canada’s North.

About You

To qualify, you should possess a CPA designation coupled with a minimum of five years in business or accounting and two years in a supervisory capacity within an administrative or accounting context. Your ability to navigate the complexities of financial management in a cross-cultural, northern environment will be key to your success.

This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.​ 

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages — Inuktut, English, and French — is highly desirable. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also valued assets for this position.
